The Modern Day Flip Flop

July 22, 2010

It’s impossible to go a summer without slipping your feet into a pair of flip-flops.  The thong sandals used to be a beach or pool only shoe that was deemed inappropriate for office or evening attire.  But, recently the flip-flop has become revamped and is now accepted as a fashionable form of footwear.  Flip flops now incorporate studs, straps and beads and are a far cry from the foamy, plastic, slip on sandals that used to only be available at drug stores and beach stores.  On that note, embrace the modern day flip flop—a casual sandal that screams “I don’t have to try to look this good.”

No Pedicure? No Problem

July 21, 2010

Usually, summer shoes are meant to show off your pedicure. June through August include the few weeks out of the year when you can actually let your toes breath.  But, let’s be honest.  Even the most primped women have days when they really can’t show off their toes—or shouldn’t.  You know who you are.  I myself have fallen victim to it many-a-times and there’s nothing worse than seeing a gorgeous sandal with some not so gorgeous feet inside.  So for those days when you’ve been a little lazy with your pedicure upkeep, do us all a favor, and opt for shoes that are either closed toe or peep toe.  Even when you’re pedicure is lacking, you can usually pull off a peep toe.  Enjoy browsing our section of no-pedicure-friendly shoes and be sure to scour our website for some more!

In the summer, pair booties with short shorts.  These Chelsea Crew “Cyrus” booties in tan for $59.99, would look great on sun-kissed legs.

These, Report "Carrie"flats in bronze for $59.95 would go great with anything from skinny jeans, to shorts, to a sleek pencil skirt.

Rock these Jeffery Cambell "Vera"wedges for $109.95 with a hot summer fitted dress.

These versatile Chelsea Crew "Venetia" closed toe sandals in gold for $39.99 would look lovely with a summer skirt, dress or pair of shorts.

Goth-Chic

July 15, 2010

Signature Gothic shoes often include a platform and have anything from lace to buckles to studs.  Gothic-style shoes have the ability to make your legs appear longer and thinner because of the chunky style and height that they embody.  To help pull off the goth look without looking like you belong at the food court of a mall, or outside of a Twilight premier, pair your gothic shoes with a more subdued outfit.  Blazers, mini dresses with opaque tights, a trench, or skinny jeans are perfect pieces to add to your gothic look.  Also, incorporate colors such as black, silver, dark grays and blues to your wardrobe.  And if you really want to embrace your inner vamp, pair your look with a deep red stained lip.  You’ll be sure to have heads turning for your new goth-goddess alter ego!

Dress for the Rain Without Sacrificing Style

July 13, 2010

1.) Color: Adding bright colors to your outfit on a rainy day can actually work wonders.  Don’t believe that just because it’s raining you have to wear black.  Wearing color can, not only brighten up your outfit, but can also brighten your mood!

2.) Umbrella: This is an obvious one. Check the weather before you leave the house, so you don’t wind up buying a $3 umbrella from a street vendor that you know is just going to break in a few hours anyway.  Invest in a cute umbrella that reflects your personality.

3.) The Trench: A light, classic trench coat is perfect for rainy weather days.  This should last you all of spring and fall, and in the summer, when it’s not too hot.

4.) Avoid Suede and Leather: Be weary of certain materials that could get ruined in the rain.  Suede and unprotected leather can be ruined by water, so avoid these materials on gray days.  Stick with rubber, pleather, or protectant-treated leather shoes, and opt for a waterproof bag.

5.) Rain Boots: Finally, our favorite part about rainy days: the rain boots! Find one pair that fits you well and reflects your style personality.  This is where you can really go to town.  My favorite look on a rainy day is leggings with colorful patterned rain boots.

How to Wear Lace

July 12, 2010

Lace is coming back this Fall.  Now, it’s hard to nail the lace look.  You don’t want to look like you’re about to walk down the aisle, but you also don’t want to look like you’re leaving your house in lingerie.  The key to wearing lace is to wear layers.  Stick with pale colors such as blush or white when choosing a lace or tulle piece because black can look a bit harsh.  Also, pair the lace with something cute underneath—a pretty tank is perfect.   This keeps the lines loose and is less aggressive than wearing nothing but a bra underneath, which is a huge fashion no no.  But don’t forget to put your own personal style into creating your lace look.  Experiment with lace shirts, skirts, leggings, headbands–and of course, shoes!

Top 5 Essential Shoes

July 7, 2010

Every woman has her essential beauty accessories, the ones that travel with her everywhere.  Every woman has that little black dress that never fails in times of an outfit crisis.  But does every woman have the 5 essential shoes?  There is such a thing…trust us.  Having a pair of each of these will make life a whole lot easier.  So, if you’re missing out, here’s an excuse to go shopping!  We guarantee you’ll be prepared for any occasion.

The Little Black Shoe

Kinda like the must-have little black dress that never disappoints, the little black shoe is sure to do the same.  A low to mid heeled, comfortable black pump is essential to any women’s shoe collection.  With the ability to either dress up or dress down an outfit, it is perfect for occasions when a high heeled glitzy and glamorous shoe just isn’t exactly appropriate.

The Triple Threat – Sexy, Strappy & Seductive

For all those other occasions where a little black shoe just won’t cut it, a sexy, glitzy shoe that sparkles up even the most bland outfit is necessary.  Silver is usually the best option, but hey, if you wanna be bold, go for the gold!

The Comfy & Casual

You want a shoe that you can pull off with jeans and a tee, but also one that you can wear with nice pants as well.   When you need a break from the heels, or your feet are blistered up from wearing your favorite pair of stilettos, grab your simple pair of flats.  They usually do the trick.

The Booty

Booties are not only totally in style, but also an essential.  Pair them with a summer dress, or create a chic look with jeans.  The cool thing about booties is that they can create totally different looks depending on what you match them with.

The Necessary Neutral

Can’t forget the nude!  We already talked about how much we love nude shoes below, so of course it made our Top 5 Essential list.

Go nude this summer!

July 1, 2010

Have you been wondering what to wear with that red hot dress, that super crazy print that doesn’t match anything, or that chic work outfit you have that just looks a little too risque with your go-to black pumps?  Well, we have the answer!  You gotta go nude.  Nude shoes are totally in style right now, so you must get yourself a pair if you don’t already have one.  And why wouldn’t you want them?  They elongate the legs instantly because of the color blends, leaving you looking long and lean, they go with absolutely anything, and you can wear them all year long.  Pretty sweet, huh?

A Few Tips on How to Rock the Nude Look:

1. Find a shade that is right for you: Nude can go with every skin tone, but you want your shoes to closely match your skin. (Think foundation) If you’re fair skinned, choose an ivory or a peach huge beige. Medium skin tones should go for a camel or basic-beige, and darker skins should try a chocolate or tan pair for a complimentary match.

2. Wear nude pumps with a skirt/suit combo: This is perfect for a professional, office-appropriate look. It’s conservative but at the same time keeps you looking’ stylish and chic as well.

3. Pair them with a vibrant dress: This will make your outfit really stand out, without taking any attention away from your colorful dress, something that ordinary black heels tend to do.

4. Forget black and white: Black and nude creates an incredible classier look. Pair the shoes with a little black dress, or wear them with leggings and a blazer for a trendy outfit.

5. Wear them with black skinny jeans: This creates the ultimate long and lean look and adds an edge of sophistication. Plus, you’re getting that classy black and nude look again!

How to Break In your High Heels

June 30, 2010

So you purchase an amazing pair of shoes, but you know that if you’re lucky, you’re tootsies can handle about two hours max.  Below is a quick guide on how to break in your high heels, so you can get your fashion and money’s worth.

1.  Dampen the inside of your shoe with a washcloth and immediately put them on and walk around in them for 30 minutes to an hour.  Afterward, place the shoe in a cool dry place to let dry.  This is a gentle way of shaping the shoe to your foot.

2. Use sandpaper or even a nail to scrape and roughen the bottom of your shoe.  If you’re too nervous to put your hands on your shoes, purchase rough patches, available at most drugstores, and glue them to the bottom of the shoe.  This will give your shoes traction so you can walk with ease on smooth surfaces.

3. Doctor Scholls!  Doctor Scholls is my best friend and he should be your best friend too! Insert shoe aides, patches, and pads so your feet are protected and alleviated from pain and stress.  My current favorite is Doctor Scholls “For Her Rub Relief” strips.  You can customize the strips and place them anywhere on the shoe.

How to Wear Combat Boots

June 30, 2010

The military style is going to be a huge hit this fall. Every year it seems to peak it’s head into Fall Fashion. Although it is a tad edgier than most trends, there are parts of the style that still scream out timeless and chic. The buttons, the blazers, and the form fitting styles are all pleasing to the eye. Hey, what guy can refuse a girl in uniform? But what we’re most excited about are the styles of combat boots that will be hitting the shelves soon. Below are a few tips on how to wear them and what to pair them with!

Seychelles "Meteor Shower" Brown $149.99

1. Match them with Girly Pieces- The boldness of combat boots surprisingly go perfectly with feminine outfits. Pair them with a lace top, which will be huge this Fall, or a floral flock dress.

2. Wear them with an Evening Dress- Although this makes a bolder statement, it can work! Pairing your combat boots with a fancy dress can tame down an evening dress and transform an otherwise nighttime only dress into a fun day time dress!

3. Fit to a T- Throw on a pair of military style boots over your skinny jeans and a plain tee. It gives the classic T-shirt and jeans look an edge.

4. Go Grunge- If you really want to embrace your inner grunge goddess match your boots with a pair of Acid jeans and over-sized plaid shirt. You’ll feel empowered and confident and you’ll be every hipster’s dream girl (good thing?).
